 Do you need to obtain or recertify your FoodSafe certification? The Tahsis Literacy Society would like to sponsor some local residents to take their FoodSafe Level 1 course. This course can be taken online.

Mission Statement: To create, facilitate and sustain a community of learners. 

2020 SUPPORTING LITERACY IN TAHSIS THROUGH -

• February Art Group session
 • Meal Preparation for students including recipe and grocery items
• Sidewalk chalk and stencils
• Scholastic book purchases for school
• Kitchen supplies for school
• Adult interactive books distributed within community
• Puzzles and gift certificate draws for community
• Puzzles for school students
• Prizes for virtual costumes for Halloween
• Latest Release book giveaway to students
• Westcoast Reader newspaper distributed in community
• July 1 book draws
• Grants: Reader Challenge for students 

 Upcoming events being worked on: Though we are starting the 2021 year with social distancing, we are planning for independent and group events where we will be able to safely gather while learning. Independent events:

• Activities, such as puzzles, meal preparation, reading, crafts Group events when safe:
• Lego event for school children
• Craft workshops (quilting, felting, basket making, spoon carving, wreath)
• Author visits
• Other workshops/presentations (hunting course/PAL)

Open Art Studio

Open Studio Night is a night where you will have the opportunity to paint or draw a masterpiece using a variety of different art supplies. This event is free of charge. Kids under 12 need to be with an adult.

Author Rick James is coming to Tahsis to speak about his new historical book on Thursday, June 6. He will attend the pot luck at the Senior Centre at 6:30 and will speak at 7:30. His visit is sponsored by Tahsis Literacy Society.

Gardening with Native Plants workshop

This free workshop is planned by the Tahsis Community Garden Society but is open to anyone interested in the topic. It will be held in the Senior Centre, 299 Alpine View.

Learn how native plants can reduce the financial and environmental costs of artificial fertilizers and toxic pesticides, reduce water use, and enhance your surroundings by working with nature. Todd Carnahan is a plant biologist and conservation photographer who has worked in ecosystem conservation for 30 years through a variety of agencies including regional governments, land trusts and other non-profits. This workshop is open to the public. Sincere thanks to the Tahsis Literacy Society for funding this event, and to the Tahsis Seniors Society for the use of their venue.

Quilting class

The Tahsis Literacy Society cosponsored a quilting class taught by Anne Hall.  Sixteen people participated, most of them locals. The pattern was incredibly hard and even though all used the same pattern, the results came out quite differently.

Tahsis Literacy Society sponsored the 5th annual wreath making workshop and it was a total success.
Danielle, Louise and Amanda gathered every form of greenery in the pouring rain so the 25 participants had much to choose from.

People worked hard to produce beautiful items. Coffee and sweets were served.

The results were varied and stunning.

This is a free event. If you don't have the tools, come anyway. People will share. Below is a photo of a swag at Willow Point if you'd like to do something besides a wreath. You could always make a centrepiece.

TLS held their AGM last night. A new executive was elected. Below is President Elsie Horvath's review of the year's events. The new executive is: Elsie Horvath, Kim Anderson, Danielle Hozempa, Lynda Llewellyn, Shauna Hunter and Stephanie Olson. Louise Gilbert still serves as coordinator.
