Santa tours the town

Thank you to the Tahsis Volunteer Firefighters and the Tahsis Lions Club for driving Santa, Mrs. Claus and a few of the elves around town to deliver candy and wish everyone a Merry Christmas!  This is a popular annual tradition that we look forward to every December.

Santa and Mrs Claus will be touring around Tahsis with the Tahsis Volunteer Firefighters and the Lions Club delivering treats and visiting with families.  Look for them on the 13th around noon, you will hear the sirens when they are in your neighbourhood!

Tahsis Christmas Tree Lighting

Tomorrow, Wednesday December 2nd at 7 pm, please join the Tahsis Volunteer Firefighters Association and the Tahsis Lions Club to light the town Christmas Tree (across from Tahsis Supermarket).  There will be free hot chocolate and hot dogs for sale.  Sing some Christmas carols!

 REMINDER:  The FIreworks that were delayed on Halloween Night are on TOMORROW night Tuesday November 3, at the Recreation Centre.  

Bonfire starts at 7 pm, FIreworks start at 8 pm.


The weather was wet and windy, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the kids in Tahsis for one of our favourite occasions!  There were  celebrations at school, with everyone in costume...

At the Rec. Centre, we realized it was just too wet for the bonfire and fire works.  But everyone had a great time anyway, with the all ages pumpkin seed spitting contest, and the Tahsis Lions Club sold hotdogs and provided free hot chocolate for everyone!  The Tahsis Health Centre Auxillary Ladies judged all the great costumes, and Sharon gave out the prizes.  Congratulations to all the winners!

The CMESS Grads and the Tahsis Lions Club hosted a bingo night last night with some excellent prizes, a good time was had by all.

Big winner of the Bonanza Round,  Brody took home a delicious ham from Gunter Bros. Meat Company.  He's going to enjoy it with his family for Easter.

Tuesday, March 3rd at 7 pm is the regular Village of Tahsis COUNCIL MEETING.  After our Economic Development plans have been announced, it's a good idea to attend council meetings to give village  council and staff the encouragement to get these initiatives up and running.

Wednesday, March 4th from 2 - 3 pm at the library there is a free event, an eLIBRARY LAB.  Unlock the power of your library!  Learn about some of the new digital services available through the library. Read magazines on your computer or tablet with Zinio. Stream movies or music with Hoopla. Read newspapers from around the world with PressDisplay.

Wednesday, March 4th at 3:30 pm at the Library there is a free event, a GENEALOGY WORKSHOP.  Whether you are a seasoned genealogist or have a budding interest in your family's history, this workshop will offer research tips and look at some of the key resources available at your library and beyond.  For more information call VIRL Tahsis Branch at (250) 934-6621

Friday, March 6th at 2:45 pm at CMESS there is a fundraising CAKEWALK, all are welcome, there's even going to be a cheesecake round.  There may be extra baked goods to purchase too.

Sunday, March 8th at the Recreation Centre, the CMESS Grads are selling PIZZA by the slice for $2 during a free movie showing from 7-9 pm. 

Thursday, March 12th Enjoy Tia's mom's homemade PEROGIES for school lunch, $4 an order with the option of a $2 mini vanilla milkshake also.  Larger dinner orders available for $8, call Tia (6504) to arrange dinner delivery.  Freezer orders available for $6 without the onions and bacon.     

Sunday, March 15th at 6:30 pm in the school gym, the Tahsis Lions Club and the CMESS Grads are hosting BINGO.  Prizes are turkeys and hams, etc.  Lots of fun!  There will be tea, coffee and concession items for sale also.

Monday, March 16th The Tahsis Literacy Society is sponsoring UKRAINIAN EASTER EGG DECORATION with instructor Pat O'Connell.  3:30 - 5:30 pm for youth under the age of 12, at the school.  Please bring 6 raw white eggs and wear old clothes.

Saturday, March 21st is the start of the Spring Break and a special Bon Voyage (or should I say ¡Buen viaje!) goes out to the 8 CMESS students who are heading to Mexico for an incredible 12 day experience, working with disadvantaged children, studying Spanish, visiting Mayan sites, and a mangrove wetlands flamingo habitat.

After a cold clear night of fireworks and a bonfire, we have beautiful day to start off the new year, and some tough swimmers took to the water at the Tahsis boat launch.

A big thank you to Mervin, Maureen, Mario and Dan, who supplied and made the hot dogs and hot chocolate for the swimmers and spectators to keep warm.

It seems even the Salmon Enhancement Fish Statue celebrates the New Year.

Nice day for a swim?  There was a thin sheet of ice in places.

Pat always participated in the Polar Bear Swim and we missed her this year!  

A good start!  Next year I'm sure she'll be dunking like the rest of them.
