He brings the library delivery every week and grocery orders from Thrifty Foods. He’s hauled furniture and appliances. During COVID he was our lifeline for many things.

Our maintenance contractor has set up road closures and checkpoints, hazard assessments are underway and when conditions permit safe access crews and subcontractors will begin clearing trees/debris. We are aware of power outages and will continue working with BC Hydro to coordinate their assessments and repairs. Wind warnings remain in effect currently, with peak winds expected this morning and easing into the afternoon.

Village of Tahsis crews have set up barricades to close the HBFSR at our end. Mainroad has contacted contractors in Campbell River to assemble at dawn and start the hazard assessments and clearing working east to west. MoTI says Highway 28 to remain closed until at least noon Nov 20th. Checkpoints are in place at Gold River and the brake check at the top of General Hill on the Campbell River side.
Emergency services have been notified and BC Hydro crews will be accessing the area tonight to perform an assessment

Mass at St. Joseph’s this Sunday, November 10 at 9:40 led by Father Mel. All welcome.
There is a door-to-door service for non-emergency medical appointments. Island Health has promoted the program. The service is not at capacity. Drivers are screened through Island health to provide the FREE service. The patient may have a companion accompany them to their appointment. Depending upon the type of medical appointment, door-to door service can be provided the same day or when it is needed. Two day advance notice is required to receive service. The service could also be used for patients discharged from the hospital and need to make it back home (again, they do need to provide 2 days notice).

Bears have been entering many cars but the damage to Harmony’s is the worst.
She wrote: Two nights ago my car door was opened by the bear. My car is small and I think he may have gotten trapped in there, my door doesn’t always stay open. He tore my car apart and it’s been written off by ICBC due to the amount of damage. I have absolutely no attractants in there, I’m not an idiot. The only things in my car was a guitar amplifier and some Purdy’s brochures. This bear is an opportunist and I’m out $8000 and my vehicle now because of it. And yes it was the bear. It was on camera. The car is covered in bear poop so feel free to come test it if you still don’t believe it was a bear. Conservation has been called and I encourage anyone whose car doors have been opened to do the same. If you think this is just a normal bear doing what bears do, then by all means leave your doors wide open and allow him into your vehicle. It might save someone else’s.
