They are coming toward us.

The MV Zim Kingston https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/environmental-concerns-container-ship-fire-1.6224957 has spilled approximately 40 shipping containers into the ocean. Estimates indicate they are floating towards the northwest coast of Vancouver Island.

Boaters should exercise extra caution due to possible debris in the ocean. If anyone comes upon debris or a container please do not touch or move this material. DFO is asking people to call the Coast Guard Pollution line at1-800-889-8852 to report any sightings of containers and as this is the spill reporting line for CCG.

Additionally, there are links below to the CCG social media sites, the information published here is accurate and the most current information available as approved by Unified Command (therefore also as current as any information I could share).  The DFO Comms team and the Joint Information Centre have done a fantastic job, understanding how important public-facing information is in a situation like the ones we’re facing right now.

Heber River bridge closure

Surespan Construction is currently working on the replacement of the Heber River Bridge for the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. The Heber River Bridge is located approximately 10 kms East of Gold River on Provincial Highway #28, British Columbia.

As part of the continued work, Surespan will need to complete a full closure of the bridge between the hours of 11am and 1pm on November 1st, 2021.This specific closure is required to be able to install the temporary detour bridge structural steel. Traffic, with the exception of emergency vehicles, will not be able to cross the bridge during the hours above.

If an emergency vehicle is required to cross the bridge, Surespan will work diligently to remove crew and equipment from the bridge to facilitate crossing. Please keep in mind that this process may take a little time to complete but we will endeavor to do so as fast as possible. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to complete the project as fast as possible.

Hello All

It been a very interesting year for all of us!!

We have been raising fund for reginal Salmon Enhancement since 2004

It has been an interesting, fun and rewarding ride.

This year was again especially challenging with COVID 19. (C-19)

We did not again have our early June summer annual BBQ contest fund raiser because

of C-19 restrictions at that time.

We were very fortunate to be able to have the Salmon Enhancement Derby in late August.

With 65% of the participance with 150% enthusiasm to raise $$ for this very worthy

and successful cause.

We Raised $50,000.

The allocations this year will be as followed:

Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society (TSES) = $22,500

Nootka Sound Watershed Society (NSWS) = $20,500

Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) = $3,500

Sport Fishing Institute (SFI) =  $3,500

Total = $50,000

Thank You for your many years of support for this important economic and social

driving force here in our region.

Much Thanks to all the Volunteers in the 4 organizations above.

Without your (Many helping hands) these program could not succeed.

Let us not forget the many individuals, companies, lodges & resorts, corporate and

other donors who annually step up with Prizes and $$$.

“ It Really is All About the FISH and It’s WORKING”

The 2022 Salmon Enhancement Derby will be held on Friday & Saturday August 26 & 27
