Tahsis is a remote village on the west coast of Vancouver Island. With only 400 residents, we don't have many of the conveniences of larger towns but we do have community spirit and lots to do in our spectacularly wild and beautiful environment.

Spring byelection likely
Tahsis expects to hold byelection to replace councillor this spring
The mayor of Tahsis says a byelection will likely be held this spring to replace departing Coun. Doug Elliott, who has butted heads with fellow council members.
No date has been set yet, Mayor Martin Davis said in an email.
Tahsis, a village of about 400 people west of Campbell River, went to the Supreme Court of B.C. in early December seeking a declaration that Elliott be disqualified from holding office on council after he missed several meetings.
The village and Elliott are scheduled to be in court in Victoria on Wednesday for a judge to decide on the municipality’s request.
After a court decision, Tahsis will begin the process of arranging a byelection, Davis said. “I would expect a spring election.”
Davis said Elliott submitted a signed letter of resignation at the Jan. 16 council meeting, saying his resignation would be effective Jan. 31.
Council in Tahsis consists of a major and four councillors.
Elliott garnered public attention in May when he took a gavel away from the councillor filling in as mayor during a raucous council meeting when the mayor was out of town.
Elliott was censured by city hall last year for conduct unbecoming of a member of council.
