Tahsis is a remote village on the west coast of Vancouver Island. With only 400 residents, we don't have many of the conveniences of larger towns but we do have community spirit and lots to do in our spectacularly wild and beautiful environment.

Job Posting for the Village of Tahsis
Letter from Claire Trevena, MLA
Last month, our MLA, Claire Trevena has asked for our thoughts and opinions on the issue of connectivity. Here is her letter. To respond, contact her at:
Toll Free: 1-866-387-5100 or

In my continued campaign to ensure that households and
businesses across the North Island have access to true high speed, broadband
internet I am putting together a profile of the constituency for government and
the large internet providers.
I hope that having a constituency wide business case will assist in persuading both Ministers and corporations for the need for 21st century level of connectivity.
I would be very appreciative of your assistance in this matter and wondered if you could share with me your experiences with the lack of access.
In particular I am interested in:
n The impact on individual business in your community – both existing and potential. For instance, what are the daily struggles businesses face by not having the speedy connection? Have new businesses have mentioned connectivity in their decision to either come, or not come, to your community?
n The impact on education – both in the classroom, for homework and for distance learning. Do your students have equity of access compared with those in the urban centres; how much reliance is there on connectivity for out of school projects? Are problems with connectivity affecting educational outcomes? How many people are doing, or have given up because of internet access, distance education?
n The impact on quality of life. Are people choosing to leave or choosing not to settle in community because of problems with connectivity? Are people losing access to benefits and programmes because of inability to connect?
n The impact on tourism. Are there any quantative reports on whether connectivity plays into tourists choosing to come or not come to the North Island; have there been anecdotal reports?
I know that you are very busy but would very much appreciate if you could help in any way that you can.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Claire Trevena, MLA
North Island

Aerial Yoga comes to Tahsis!
Tahsis Aerial Collective from Josh Lambert on Vimeo.
Here is the message from Carla Haywood on the Tahsis BC Facebook Page:
Hello Friends!
I am seeking out my female friends in hopes of starting a women’s aerial collective on Vancouver island! I have been practising aerial silks for just about a year now on and off and want to share/ learn from anyone willing to join in the fun.
I post now probing for interested individuals and plan to hold a gathering in Tahsis, BC (where the video was shot) to teach and learn from and with everyone interested. I am hoping to host a week long workshop in the spring, date undecided depending on the interest levels and schedules.
Those who are interested, I will send some videos to for workouts that will strengthen those deep core and interesting muscles, used in aerials, strengthened and when we hit the silks you will have a solid foundation to begin from. So Join the group: Tahsis Aerial Collective
Pm me if you are interested with possible dates you could be available march – april time or even July and with any questions!
huge thanks to Josh for shooting the video and supporting the cause:)

Santa Claus hangs out with the TVFD and the Tahsis Lions Club!
With sirens wailing and bells ringing, Santa and helpers from the Tahsis Volunteer Fire Fighters and the Tahsis Lions Club cruised around town this afternoon dropping off goodie bags to all the good girls and boys of all ages. Thanks for the treats!
Tahsis Literacy Society Sponsored Wreath Making Workshop
On Saturday, several people got together at the Tahsis Recreation Centre and made beautiful Christmas wreaths. Thanks to the members of the Tahsis Literacy Society who collected up the supplies. We can make gorgeous arrangements from vegetation found in our own backyards any time of year! Some little ones came along and watched the artistic process.

CMESS Christmas Party
The staff of CMESS enjoyed a lavish rib dinner at Sally's Grill to celebrate the holidays, and I'm sure each and every one is looking forward to that last day of school, and will enjoy a much needed break. Thank you for all you do for our kids!

Skiing at Whistler with NSOP
Thanks to Nootka Sound Outdoor Program, 3 of our CMESS students were able to go with the Gold River kids to ski at Whistler this past weekend. Phil Parkes runs an incredible program full of exciting opportunities for everyone in our school district, showing a valuable commitment to experiential learning, and inspiring a love for our surroundings.

Ubedam Theatre Radio Plays 2016
Thank you to Ubedam Theatre Society for putting on a great show this weekend! Three old-time radio plays, performed by local talent had the audience in stitches. It was clear everyone had worked very hard to produce such a fun piece of entertainment, full of clever dialogue, props and music! The intermission treats from Sally's Grill were tasty and congratulations to the winners of the free tickets to the spring show... can't wait to see what they come up with next!
