It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Monty Manahan who left us peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 26, 2025 at Kelowna General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Heather, son Chris (Bry), daughter Candice (Norm) and his granddaughter Cadence and Jericho. He is also survived by his sister Catherine (Reg), his wife’s siblings Leanna (Rick), Dale (Anita) and Cindy, as well as many amazing nieces and nephews.
Monty grew up in small town Northern BC. He lived in several rural communities, including Ootsa Lake, Endako, Hixon and Cinema, before settling in Prince George to raise his family. Monty worked his way up through the sawmills and landed in Human Resources at Canfor. Monty was known by many for his time at Netherlands and Bear Lake, where he was respected for his steady hand, thoughtful judgment, and serious approach to every challenge. He was a man who believed in doing things the right way and holding himself to the highest standards. Yet beneath his serious demeanor was a hint of playfulness that would occasionally break through—a wry smile, a well-timed joke, or a glimmer in his eye that reminded everyone he never took life too seriously.
At home, Monty found his true purpose. His greatest legacy is the family he built and nurtured with unwavering love and pride. Nothing brought him more satisfaction than seeing his children grow into successful, caring adults. He took immense joy in their accomplishments and never missed a chance to share stories of their milestones with quiet pride. His proudest and most cherished moments were with his granddaughter Cadence, with whom he shared a very special bond.
Outside of work and family, Monty found peace in the outdoors. He cherished his time fishing with his family on the Skeena and at Ootsa Lake, where the stillness of the water and the promise of a good catch offered him both solace and a touch of adventure. His most recent years, teaching his grandaughter to fish on Francois Lake and watching his son fish the rivers in Tahsis filled him with pride. These fishing adventures were some of his most treasured moments, blending his reflective nature with his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Those who knew Monty will remember his integrity, his calm strength, and the dependable presence he was to everyone around him. He set an example of discipline, decency, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
Monty leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and who will honor his memory by carrying forward the values he lived by every day. The family wants to send special thanks to the Campbell River ICU team, Dr Sean Virani and the Cardiac team at St. Paul’s, as well as Dr. Wan and the incredible Cardiac Surgery Team at Kelowna General.
A celebration of life will take place in Prince George, BC on July 10, 2025 at the Pineview Hall on Bendixon Road. Pancakes breakfast will start at 10am, followed by an opportunity to share memories, photos and stories.
The family plans to also host a celebration of life in Tahsis in Fall 2025. Details to be determined.
