The Annual General Meeting will be held in the garden at 6pm on Tuesday, June 28th. All members need to attend this very important meeting.
In addition to current members, this meeting is open to anyone wishing to join the group and all members of the public. Please come and check out all the work that has been happening in the garden and find out what the TCG is all about.

Tahsis road work to improve safety, reliability
Rehabilitation and chip-sealing will be undertaken this summer on approximately 12.5 kilometres of the Head Bay Forest Service Road from the Village of Tahsis to improve its condition and reliability.
In addition to the resurfacing, work will include replacing 11 culverts, as well as ditch work and paving on bridge approaches. Mainroad Mid-Island will perform the work on culverts, ditches and bridge approaches. A tender for the chip-sealing will be released in the coming weeks, and work will begin once a contract is awarded.
The main portion of the project is expected to begin this summer and be complete by fall 2022.
Head Bay Forest Service Road connects Tahsis to Gold River and is the village’s only outside road connection. While forest service roads fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Forests, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure maintains this road to ensure Tahsis residents continue to have reliable and safe road access outside their community.
Drivers can expect single-lane alternating traffic during the construction period.

Last Tahsis Beach Seine event this Thursday
Join the NSWS this spring as we aid in coast wide efforts to determine where and when juvenile salmon use this valuable habitat.
This project is meant to help the NSWS engage with the community with hands-on learning about the habitat in our local estuary and the species that rely on it, as well as collect spatial and temporal data on out-migrating salmon smolts to satisfy data gaps in the multi-stakeholder WCVI Marine Risk Assessment.
The perfect opportunity to get outside with your family and learn something about your local ecosystems. Meet at West Bay Beach at 9:30am on the above dates.

New garage in town

Good day to all the people in Tahsis,
We have rented the mechanic shop at the boat ramp and right now we have two large jobs on the go which will be done early next week. If you wish to send me a text and need something fixed on your vehicle, my email is sandyandpix@hotmail.com I will get back to you the same day with a time you can bring your vehicle down for Ben to take a look.
As you know, getting parts for vehicles is not easy, but we do eventually receive them. Please do not drop your vehicles at our home or at the shop. They will ticket you at the boat ramp if you leave them there. We ask for your patience. We are both working seven days a week and hope that we can get it running smoothly and take care of everyone who needs our service.

New ESS Coordinators
Following the January extreme weather event and power outage and with the on-going local, regional and provincial emergency management requirements and activities, we recognized that even with a cadre of volunteers, it was too much to ask for one person to take on the Emergency Support Services role. As a result, we have settled on a model with two co-directors which will provide good coverage and support for the community when we experience the next emergency event. Amanda Knibbs and Lauren Roth have agreed to step into these roles effective immediately. Together they bring a strong skill set in logistics, planning, volunteerism, information management and technology, and a deep knowledge of community resources and assets. I am extremely pleased that they have agreed to take this on this responsibility. They join Chief Lisa Illes, our Emergency Program Coordinator, as key players in the community’s emergency response team.
Single lane on Head Bay Road
Mainroad North Island Contracting will be starting some culvert replacements along Head Bay Forest Service Road on Monday June 6th. There are a total of 10 replacements and 2 new culvert installations that will take place over the next three weeks between kilometres 1-12, along with some associated ditching work. During these replacements the road will be down to single lane alternating traffic. This will likely result in very short delays but something that the travelling public will be made aware of via Drive BC. As usual on all construction sites any emergency vehicles will be given priority passage through the sites if needed.
