Welcome to the New Director of Recreation

This summer, we are saying goodbye to long time Director of Recreation, Sharon Taporowski, who is retiring after many years of service at the Tahsis Recreation Centre.  Of course we will all miss Sharon, but wish her well during this transition to a more relaxing lifestyle, and we appreciate all her hard work over the years.  This morning I was able to meet the woman who will be taking over...

Meet new Director of Recreation, Sarah Jepson!

Sarah earned a B.Sc. from Simon Fraser University in Community Development and Epidemiology (Minor in Physical and Social Health and Well-Being) in 2012 and is working on her Diploma in Public Administration and Local Government Management from UVic.  She has considerable experience working in remote communities.

Most recently Sarah was the Program Manager for Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District in La Ronge, Sask where she focused on community development and capacity building through tools, planning, resources and coordination. Prior to that she was the Youth Program Coordinator for Slave Lake, AB.  She has worked as Sport Director for summer camps.

She is extremely well qualified with her NLS Pool Option, SFA, CPR-C, NLS Water Park Option, Aqua Fitness Instructor Manual (WSIT) instruction, Pilates, Personal, Third Age and Weight Trainer, CPR Instructor, Water Safety Instructor Manual (WSIT) Instructor, WHMIS and Non-Crisis Intervention Training.  Sarah speaks English, Spanish and French.   She has a wide range of interests including holding her pilot’s licence.

Sarah also devotes a few weeks a year to leading children and youth programs on cruise ships.  Her most recent trip to Europe on a cruise ship was with 500 kids, so I think she can handle our children and youth!

Welcome to Tahsis, Sarah, and congratulations on the new position.  I am sure in the weeks to come, our community members (of all ages!) will be enjoying your expertise, and welcoming you in person, once you are settled into your new job.  It's clear from your accomplishments you will be a huge asset and valuable part of the village of Tahsis!
