Remembrance Day Ceremony at CMESS

This morning the staff and students of CMESS held a Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Andie and Gareth MC'ed the ceremony

Frank Collins, Dave Madill and Chuck St. Denis, all spoke to the staff and students.

Junior Canadian Rangers

Lizzie and Elsie read "In Flanders Fields"

After the ceremony, some students stayed behind to speak with Mr. Madill and see his medals. His moving words to the assembly included the fact that listening to the last post was difficult for him and that it was good that we didn't know and share the painful feelings he has because of his time in war.  Dave volunteered to fight in Korea, and at age 18 parachuted into enemy territory where more than half his platoon was killed.  He always connects with the kids, exuding a quiet courage and humble honesty about his feelings and experiences.  Thank you Dave, for spending time with us today.

Retired Captain Chuck St. Denis spent some time in the humanities classroom this morning, speaking with the students about his experiences in the Canadian Armed Forces.  Thank you Chuck for spending time with us today.
