Strathcona Food Network

4 members of this group that meets in Campbell River traveled to Tahsis on Friday to see first hand all the great work that Tahsis does to promote food security.  A community has food security when "everyone obtains a safe, personally acceptable, nutritious diet through a sustainable food system that maximizes self-reliance and social justice." (defined in the Strathcona Food Security Project document found here)

Local food action committee Tahsis representative Aubrey S. organized the meeting and was happy to show off our accomplishments in Tahsis, specifically the Tahsis Community Garden, the Local, a self serve garden market stand, the CMESS School kitchen and garden.  The group also enjoyed a visit to the Tahsis Artisans' Coop and a lovely lunch on the dock at Westview Marina.  Brenda L. and Stephanie O. described the planning and success of the new garden market stand, and Mayor Jude Schooner was in attendance to show her support as well.  Representatives from Greenways Land Trust, the Campbellton Community Garden in Campbell River, and Island Health were all very happy to have the opportunity to get to know all about the good work we do here in Tahsis.

Checking out the Local, just as Janet was dropping off still-warm fresh baked bread.  Wow!

In the Community Garden

The Community Garden is a great place to sit and visit with friends.
