Tahsis is a remote village on the west coast of Vancouver Island. With only 400 residents, we don't have many of the conveniences of larger towns but we do have community spirit and lots to do in our spectacularly wild and beautiful environment.

Thanksgiving 2015 in Esperanza
We didn't have sunshine, but we had family, friends, neighbours, wildlife, songs, stories, prizes, and a delicious feast yesterday as we visited Esperanza for Thanksgiving. Over 100 people travelled from Zeballos, Tahsis, Gold River, and even a few from as far away as Victoria to enjoy the holiday.
Chef Gerry Boy and his helpers put out an amazing spread, with turkey, ham, potatoes that I watched being mashed with the biggest industrial masher I've ever seen (what a workout!), gravy, cranberry sauce, and everyone else brought potluck sides and desserts. It was lovely!
The whales were in the inlet, we could hear and see them spouting in the distance. The kids ran around and enjoyed themselves on the paths and swings, amidst the free range chickens and dogs. It's easy to be truly thankful when surrounded by the beautiful, generous and friendly community at Esperanza, who invite everyone every year to visit and share the holiday.
