Westview Marina Hosts Salmon Enhancement BBQ Cook Off

What a great crowd last night as Tahsis visitors and locals came out to Westview Marina to enjoy some amazing local food and support the Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society in the 5th Annual BBQ Cook Off.

A bit of much-needed rain drizzled down, but everyone was in great spirits as we tucked into some amazing entrees.  For $15, our tickets made us judges as we voted on our favourites out of 6 teams.

These guys weren't in the competition, they were bringing in their catch of the day, but it was cool to see the fish freshly caught right beside the finished entrees.  Local eating at its best!

Frank Collins, one of the driving forces of the Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society.  He has worked tirelessly for the healthy numbers of salmon in our waters.
Great crowd
We enjoyed a creamy seafood chowder by Barry Freeman, some smokey barbeque glazed chicken by Dave Smith, freshly caught and grilled salmon with homemade tarter sauce by Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society (Frank and Mike), beautifully wrapped Tahsis Inlet prawn spring rolls by Dwayne and Dixie Maul, spicy fish or beef tacos by Tyson and Cody, and candied salmon by Thor and Sam Johanson, all with a choice of 3 salads on the side.

Voting was a difficult choice, everything was perfectly cooked and delicious.  But when the ballots were counted, the winners were:

1st place:  Thor and Sam with their great candied salmon (they've now won several years in a row)
2nd place:  Dixie and Dwayne, new to the competition with the spicy sweet spring rolls
3rd place:  Tyson and Cody with the excellent fish tacos.

Tyson and Cody also won the extra prize for the best dressed team, I think it was the huge straw hat that put them over the top.

The winners!
After dinner Dave Smith generously offered up an extra $1000 "for the FISH" if the crowd matched it, and after a few minutes of collection, that goal was easily met.  All in all, with 100 tickets sold, and the extra donations of Dave and the rest of the crowd the grand total of the fundraising was $3500 for the Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society!

We enjoyed a special musical performance after dinner from the Bobbers who played their popular song "Get your Asses to Tahsis"

Well done everyone, thank you for a really fun night, and a fabulous meal!
