Aurora starts Kindergarten in the fall, and was impressed by the ceremonies |
The Awards Ceremony was lots of fun to watch and we were very proud to learn that over half of our student body made the honour roll. Our kids are working hard and seeing success! The students who were doing Independent Studies put on displays so we could see what they were learning and it was impressive, Everything from art, electrical work, pottery, writing, music, marine biology, to canoeing.
The school very kindly thanked me for my volunteer work serving breakfast everyday, sponsored by Breakfast Clubs of Canada. The principal presented me with a Kitchen Aid professional stand mixer, so that is an exciting new appliance for me to play with in the kitchen! Of course, it's my favourite colour, red to match "Ruby" our Vitamix blender.
This year we served well over 2800 free breakfasts to anyone at school who wanted or needed one, and I have to thank the kids for being so fun to work with. They are cheerful and fun first thing every morning, and they make it a pleasure to come in and volunteer.
Another exciting award was presented to Emily Lohn from the Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society, for her excellent work with that organization. Emily received a beautiful framed artwork piece depicting a salmon by artist
April White. Ms. White was honored last year by having "Salmon Tale" chosen for the 2015/16 Pacific Salmon Foundation's Recreational Fisheries Conservation Stamp.
Thank you to Frank, Lucille and Bill for showing such support to Emily in her studies of marine biology, and the salmon hatchery in particular.
We are so proud of the staff, volunteers, parents and students who make our school the heart of our community. Another year wraps up, and we are sadly saying goodbye to some families, Vansolkemas and Lohns, you will be sadly missed, but we wish you every success in the future, and we know you will be staying in touch.
