Attention School District 84 Communities

Please be advised that all Vancouver Island West School District school playgrounds are closed effective immediately.

Other than playground equipment, school playing fields remain open and people are encouraged to use them in support of good physical and mental health provided social distancing between people of at least two meters is maintained at all times.
Healthy activities include: jogging, hiking, or going for a bike ride.
People who are feeling unwell should stay home.
Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep our children and community safe.

Renewing your car insurance

Mine comes due in May. I wrote to Claire Trevena saying I did not want to go to Gold River to do this. She wrote back the following. If you have no way to take a photo as required, call me (6246) and I will come over with the iPad.

________________________________
Dear Ms. Olson

You should be able to call the insurance office in Gold River and
renew your car insurance
online.

We are in a similiar situation (I am working from home) and my
husband was able to renew his without going out.  He called the
local office, they took our home phone number and he
was put in the queue for a call back from an adjuster.  The call
came about 4 hours later the same day.

You will need your ICBC form, a photo of your odometer and a
credit card to pay online.
If you don't have a cell phone, I would suggest having someone
else take the photo and email it to you.  The adjuster will walk
you through the process.

I hope this is helpful.

Announcement from Esperanza

Dear friends and family, due to the spread of Covid-19, and the recommendations of the world leaders we have decided to cancel the Esperanza Easter Dinner & Service. We are in uncertain times for sure, but we believe Creator is in control!
Philippians 4:6-7 says: Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
If there is any way we can help you in this time, please let us know! We are praying for you in general, but if you have specific prayer requests please share them so we can support you better.

Sally's Grill status

There is a tutorial on YouTube which explains how to order: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LQ4W7p6Dhc

VIRL closes all libraries

Libraries on Vancouver Island close due to COVID-19

Vancouver Island Regional Library’s eLibrary remains open
  • Mar. 16, 2020 2:37 p.m.

Vancouver Island Regional Library will close all of its
library branches to the public on March 16 at 8 p.m.
due to the COVID-19 situation and recommendations
put forward today by the province’s chief medical
health officer.
“In coming to this difficult decision, we paid particular
attention to the province’s prohibition on gatherings
of more than 50 people, and the strong appeal for
everyone to stay home during this critical time,” said
VIRL’s executive director Rosemary Bonanno.
“In this rapidly changing environment, we believe this
is the best decision for our staff, customers, and larger
public.”
As a result of the closures, VIRL has extended all due
dates by six weeks and asks customers not to return
any library materials until branches have reopened to
the public.
Throughout the closure, VIRL’s eLibrary, which includes
thousands of ebooks and audiobooks, scores of
downloadable music, and hours of streaming movies of
TV, will remain open for anyone with a VIRL library card.
Senior’s Centre will close until further notice. Effective as of March 17/20

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Next Tuesday (March 10th), Kiley Ketchum, the North Island Public Health Community Nutritionist, will be coming to CMESS to lead a cooking workshop centred around preparing quick, healthy lunches. The senior Culinary Arts class will be participating as part of their course, however parents of elementary and secondary students are welcome to join.

The objective of this workshop, and two future workshops planned for April and May, is to promote healthy eating, which in turn supports development and learning, while working with ingredients and resources that are often available to us in our remote community.
