March 13 will be Dr. Yeomans last day in Tahsis before his retirement.
Tahsis is a remote village on the west coast of Vancouver Island. With only 400 residents, we don't have many of the conveniences of larger towns but we do have community spirit and lots to do in our spectacularly wild and beautiful environment.

Name the Puppy 2019
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police needs your help to name the next generation of police dogs.
The chosen names will be given to 13 German Shepherd puppies born at the Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta.
The 13 children whose names are selected will each receive a laminated 8×10-inch photo of the pup they name, a plush dog named Justice and an RCMP baseball cap.
Contest rules are simple
- Names must begin with the letter "M"
- Names must have no more than nine letters
- Names must be one or two syllables
- Contestants must live in Canada and be 14 years old or younger
- Only one entry per child will be eligible
- Entries must be received by March 26, 2019
Contest winners and the winning names will be announced on April 30, 2019, on the RCMP website and social media.
There are two ways to enter
- Send a letter to the following address. Be sure to print the child's name, address, telephone number and the suggested name for a puppy.
Attn: "Name the Puppy Contest"
Police Dog Service Training Centre
Box 6120
Innisfail, AB T4G 1S8
We love to receive drawings and paintings! If submitting by mail, children are invited to get creative with their entries.
Winning names will be chosen by the PDSTC staff. A draw will determine the winning entry in the event of multiple submissions of the same puppy name.
Although there can be only 13 winners, names not selected for the contest will be considered for other puppies born during the year.

Tahsis Community Garden Seed Sale
Tahsis Community Garden Society and West Coast Seeds
Spring Fundraiser
February 14 - March 31, 2019
The Tahsis Community Garden Society is happy to announce that it has been approved to sell seeds from West Coast Seeds as a fundraising effort. Many of you may already be familiar with this family owned company as it has been in operation on the lower mainland since 1983. They have a great informational gardening guide/seed catalogue with a focus on non-treated, non-GMO and certified organic seeds of outstanding quality.
The fundraising program offers a variety of 65 of West Coast’s most popular seeds, including herbs, vegetables and flowers. The fundraising brochure and order form are available at this link to the participants page. Click on ‘Download Your Growing Guide’ at the bottom of the webpage for a full colour brochure, and to order, open up the BC XLXS spreadsheet. The order form lists all the prices and will calculate the total cost, including GST. Orders must be prepaid (cash preferred). The Tahsis Community Garden is covering the shipping cost.
Order deadline is March 31st and seeds will be available for pick up at our Annual General Meeting on April 14th. Completed order forms and payment may be dropped off to Silvie at the library during open hours, or to Kim at the school – from 9 til noon, Mon – Thursday only.
If you have any questions, please speak with Silvie Keen (250.934.7979) or Kim Anderson (250.934.6465).

Climbing wall training begins
Because of this woman, Brooke Jones who campaigned, fundraised, researched and trained herself, the Tahsis Recreation Centre climbing wall will be reopening soon.
Last night 20 volunteers came out to learn how to be belayers. (The people who hold the ropes on the ground.) We covered a lot in two hours and will meet once more to get certified. The plan is to have the wall open early March.
