Congratulations to Leon Walters whose duck took first place in the Tahsis Days Duck Race!  The money raised by selling ducks goes to the Health Centre Auxillary and Leon turned around and gave his winnings (over $100) right back to the Auxillary.  Thank you so much!

Firefighters' Pulled Pork BBQ

After 2 days of slow cooking and smoking, the Tahsis Volunteer Firefighters Association served up their famous pulled pork sandwiches and homemade coleslaw on Sunday night, while people made their last minute bids at the silent auction.

Thank you for all your hard work, and those sandwiches are amazing!

Tahsis Days 2015 Slugfest at the Community Garden

There's always great snacks at the garden!  Thanks to the Village of Tahsis for the leftover zucchini from the zucchini races.  They were used as kabob holders for the fruit, then taken home by a visitor to fry up!

Alice, Ellen and Agatha, we were so glad to see our old friends again!  Agatha was our very first gardener when the raised beds were built in 2010.  Alice has done a lot of work at the community garden in Zeballos.

Gale Bates and one of her many interesting displays

Our garden enjoyed a visit from Gayle Bates, Comox Strathcona Waste Management Contract Waste Reduction Educator!  Gayle was fun and engaging, and spoke to us about recycling, waste reduction, composting and more!  She shared tons of prizes and words of wisdom and encouragement.

Karma had fun following a scavenger hunt devised by Marion Howell, here she had found "something orange".

It was so hot, thankfully there was plenty of ice cold lemonade for everyone.  Thanks to the Olsons for lending us your dispenser, and thanks to CMESS for lending us the cups so we could continue to be "trash free" in the garden.

Our special honorary slug destroyer Dudley came for a visit with his human, Juanita

Jan won the draw, a great market basket!

Ellen

Gayle brought lots of crafting fun for everyone

One important fact about our 4th annual Slugfest.  There was not one slug to be found ANYWHERE!  It has just been too hot and dry.  Caleb, who was our grand champion at our 1st slugfest was really hoping to find one, but he had no luck.  The only slug to be seen was this wonderful knitted slug, made by the talented knitter Janet Kirsop.  Andrea won him in the draw.

Tahsis Days 2015 Cook Off Competition

This was such a fun event!  Thank you to Maureen for telling us a bit about the history of cooking competitions in Tahsis and remembering the late Randy Musfelt's efforts during Tahsis Days in the past.

We had 38 people come for lunch to eat and judge the 8 amazing entries.  The money raised at the door went as prizes, and the Village of Tahsis also provided the prizes of wineglasses, a set of wooden cutting boards, a water cooler and 3 Tahsis Time Grill gift certificates.

The judges ran into 2 difficulties with this meal;  fitting that many delicious samples on their plates, and then choosing favourites.  But when the votes were counted:

1st prize and the recipient of the Randy Musfelt trophy went to Graham Bosecker for his "Hercules Moussaka"

2nd prize went to me!  My son and I made "Lady and the Tramp Spaghetti and Meatballs"

3rd prize went to Stephanie Olson for her "Wimpys I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a cheeseburger pie today..."

Thank you to the Village of Tahsis for the use of the kitchen and recreation centre and Sharon Taporowski for help in setting up.

Thank you to Stella and Dave Richards who organized the successful event!

Liz put on an elaborate and delicious spread with a stuffed pork loin and Caesar salad

Pat made "Boris and Natasha" Perogy Casserole

Maureen made "Speedy Gonzales Taco Salad"

Thankfully we had people helping with dishes, because I don't think any disposable paper plates could have stood up to these servings!

All the cooks!  What fun we had!

Karma really felt her Daddy deserved a prize, and then he won the big trophy!

Tahsis Days 2015 Scavenger Hunt

Congratulations to  Maureen, Kim, Debbie and Elizabeth for winning the Scavenger Hunt Friday night!  The list was made up by the Village of Tahsis staff and the items everyone needed to find made it a lot of fun.
