Details on August 30 Head Bay Road repair

I’m writing to give you an update on some upcoming roadworks that the Ministry of Transportation and Mainroad have planned on Head Bay FSR.  We have had some additional funds come available and as such we will be resurfacing the first 6km of Head Bay FSR heading out of Tahsis. The road shoulders have already been graded down and we will follow that up with a thin layer of asphalt to level the road surface and top that with 2 layers of chip seal which will add strength and seal the road surface. Weather pending we are hoping to have this work completed in the next couple of weeks and drivers can expect delays while these works are taking place. I know residents of Tahsis are familiar with the chip seal process but if you could please pass on the reminder that when chip seal is initially applied it is important that drivers travel slowly to allow the surface to compact evenly and not create washboard which would harden in the new surface. Please feel free to reach out or council if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Digital Economy Response Program

 Message from Kira Marshall:

I am reaching out to invite you to apply to the Digital Economy Response Program (DER3) (which has now been extended to September 30th, 2021).

DER3 is open to any/all individuals, non profit or businesses living or working on Vancouver Island, (North of the Malahat), on the Sunshine Coast, or Gulf Islands, and our team of business and digital technology experts are here to help you determine what your needs are and work alongside you on the path of digital transformation, at your own pace, and within your own budget.

It is a free/no obligation program that has helped 100s of small to medium businesses (SMBs), individuals and non profits, enter or expand into the digital economy.

It has supported business owners with leveraging digital tools in a variety of ways, such as:

  • Setting up an e-commerce site / web store for your product/services

  • Navigating the digital world and transition from selling in person to online

  • Improving your web and social media presence

  • Creating and implementing a social media marketing strategy to expand your markets and reach more customers

  • Identifying, connecting and communicating with your customers, wherever they are in the world

  • Improve your rankings in online search results

  • Evaluating and selecting payment processing systems

  • Investigating and implementing digital tools to streamline and create efficiencies in your operations (how to produce your products and offer your services)

  • Effectively communicate and grow your markets

  • Define their target markets and develop social media marketing strategies

  • Referring businesses onto digital service providers who can help them create, update or maintain their online presence (website, social media)

  • Integrating your operational systems so they “talk to” each other, resulting in less manual work for you

Odd markings

There are a lot of these markings on the road. At both ends of rough parts. Hope it means these parts will be fixed.

Another chance for vaccine in Tahsis

Whole Community Approach

whole-community-gif.gif

Island Health will take a “whole of community” approach to immunization in communities where:

  • there is a small population, and
  • there are barriers to accessing larger immunization clinics (i.e., requiring ferry, air or 3+ hours of ground travel)

Island Health’s COVID-19 immunization team is returning to many communities in August to provide first and second doses to all eligible residents age 12+.

Appointments are needed. Please ensure that you are registered in the provincial ‘Get Vaccinated’ system at www.GetVaccinated.gov.bc.ca, and book your appointment when you receive a link. Alternatively, you can call 1-833-838-2323 to reserve your spot.

If you have not received a notice to book your second dose, and you received your first dose more than 28 days ago, please call the number listed above and tell the agent that you live in a whole community clinic location.

This is the last set of whole community clinics. Island Health is working on a sustainable, accessible program for people who miss this clinic and need first or second dose immunizations in the future. We will share more information about this program in the weeks ahead.

Second summer market

The second summer market was even more successful than the first. Eleven vendors and even more shoppers. I think the donuts and cabbage rolls were the draw. Thanks to those who attended. Last market will be the last Sat. in August, the 28th. (Photos from Sally, Lynda, Claire and Aubrey.)
